Re: Signing today per young Jack,
It wouldn't surprise me to see Ginge sold on in the summer, especially with Burke and Oxford hopefully pushing for places.

If we did sell him, it would have been a brilliant bit of business for the club considering some were questioning why we were offering him a contract extension in the first place.

Sentiment aside, I think the club should be aiming a bit higher than a 33 year old whose 'distribution is a bit shit'.

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
I think Ogbonna is easily our best CB but this time last year I would have said we didn't really need a new one... I think most were surprised when he was brought in.

Much as I like Tomkins & Reid I think that we could get better and I can see Bilic letting at least one (or both) of them go and getting another really decent CB in.

Burke & Oxford (if he stays) will need to be given a chance and by all accounts we should be planning our future defence around them.

Keep Collins for another year as first rate back up and excellent influence on the young ones.

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
"I think you should base assessment on the whole season and not a ten game period that suits, RC. "

You might think that, but I don't share that opinion.

Players, managers & tactics get found out during a season & have to adapt & change accordingly. Thus. reviewing a quarter of the season after people have assessed us & being at the business end of the season is more than fair imo to give an assessment on whether it worked or not.

Ranieri is a prime example of that & what he did with Leicester during the season. They were far more open at the start of the season & then changed.

As I say, I know his options were limited at RB , but he still had options & he choose not to make them.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if he never plays Obiang again & indeed if he moves him on.

However, it would bother me if he doesn't address that position properly with a specialist in that role rather than trying to make do it with a makeshift Kouyate & or Noble who aren't really suited to that role.,even if it means dropping one or the other.

Even with a RB in place then imo we will be as open to leaking in goals without that specialist DM & as open we have been in the last 9 league games.

For all the faults of the strikers yesterday the fact is that one goal should have been enough against a woeful attacking team that were totally devoid of ideas & confidence & 19th in the form table. That was just wasn't a once off as the stats have shown over the last quarter of the season. Indeed, I'd argue we were fortunate not to concede even more against Watford & West Brom.

We've apparently gone from a manager not wanting to attack to a manager not wanting to defend.

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
I think more specifically, Antonio losing a bit of form playing right back (in that position as I thought he started well there) and Ginge not playing?

Probably comes from teams working out how to overrun him, particularly with a lack of support in front of him.

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
would the upturn in goals conceded not be more likely to be down to Antonio playing right back and Ginge not playing??

Seemed to happen right around then

Re: Signing today per young Jack,

Yes, Obiang has impressed when he has come on sometimes, other times he has looked no better than who he replaced. The team has had a rhythm this season and perhaps Bilic thought it best to preserve that rather than fit in a specialist player.

Not having a right back has been an issue that he's failed on, although to be fair no one could predict how utterly shit Jenk0 would go and then get injured and we bought Byram to stop Everton getting him which will hopefully prove a wise move long term.

I'm sure he'll be targeting a right back in the summer, then it's up to the four CM's and Bilic to work out which combination is best.

If the new boy subsequently gets game time ahead of Obiang, will this annoy you? Or will you be happy the position has a specialist in it?

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
Unless we are going for someone that is approaching world-class at centre back (and if we have that money, it should go elsewhere,) I think we are fine there.

With the exciting style that we all like (with the fullbacks, even if they are actual fullbacks way up the pitch,) we are always going to give up goals.

I think the money is better spent on better finishers and pace and hard work on the wings.

I did read somewhere that he would be regarded as homegrown.

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
It was pretty obvious though Jonson wasn't it as picked up by another poster, but as it wasn't for you I'm happy to have clarified.

Yes, I know what the problem is as all too obvious & simply hasn't been addressed by the manager despite having other options to make a more cohesive overall team unit, which imo would have seen more points on the board.

Neither Kouyate or Noble are really DM players & they do the best they can. Obiang is more of a specialist as a DM , but the manager doesn't fancy him for whatever reason & or simply doesn't want to upset one of the other two by dropping them.

Obiang may be not the best DM in the world , but was certainly outstanding on the night against Spurs & has hardly had a look in since.

Ogbonna has to stay as the only left-sided player. Tomkins is one of my favourite players. But I think the brave and sensible move is to sell Tomkins and move Collins on towards the end of the window. I think you have a little look at Burke and Oxford in pre-season though just to make sure they can contribute, then ditch Collins.

What pisses me off, is the fact there are 11 opposition players trying to play well, score against us and fucking beat us.

Get rid of them, and I reckon we could really make strides with this squad.

mart 2:45 Mon May 16
Re: Signing today per young Jack,
Which CB would you let leave given the choice Alex?

Ogbonna has been outstanding

Collins was too (and no re-sale value)

Tomkins hasn't pushed on but still a great squad member

Reid not looked his usual self in 2nd half of season but again, still very good

It's a tricky one!

Re: Signing today per young Jack,
Surprised to hear that you don't like our first team players, Cheques? You're usually pretty positive about us.

Johnson 2:42 Mon May 16
Re: Signing today per young Jack,
Oh, you just meant the last 10 games, RC? Why didn't you say?

That might have as much to do with Collins dropping out of the side as it does the midfield as the midfield has been pretty consistent all season, where as Collins has dropped out.

A fair few have come from playing Antonio at right back unfortunately too, we have to buy a first choice right back for next season. That is more important for me than replacing Moses directly, Antonio moves up to that position as first choice with Samuelson possibly being seen a bit more.

Reality Cheques 2:40 Mon May 16
Re: Signing today per young Jack,
Disagree Alex, I think we do need the 4, just not convinced about their actual quality.

Certainly not convinced by Oxford either.
